CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring enhancements in camera technology, battery capacity, and processing capabilities. Both devices are powered by the new A20 Pro chip and incorporate a redesigned vapor chamber to ensure consistent performance. Additionally, Apple introduced a more compact Dynamic Island and upgraded camera controls tailored for professional users. Preorders open on September 12, with official sales beginning September 18 across over 65 countries and regions.

A key camera upgrade is the 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera equipped with variable aperture. The lens, with six internal blades, can shift between four aperture settings. Users are able to manually adjust aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. When framing a scene, a histogram can display exposure levels. The new imaging system also introduces texture and grain controls to Photographic Styles, while video recording now allows Cinematic effects to be added after capture.

Apple is also rolling out Reference Image, a feature designed for users who need to verify whether a photograph has been modified. This opt-in option captures signed sensor data when a photo is taken in Reference mode. The private Cloud Compute then processes this data into a reference image for comparison within the Photos app. Support for the SynthID standard will be expanded via a software update later this year. Image metadata will also serve as an alternative method to identify AI-generated or edited images.

Photographers gain greater control with variable aperture

The A20 Pro chip utilizes a 2-nanometer manufacturing process, combining a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU performs up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. The processor features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 cores dedicated to AI processing. Its new thermal design positions the processor closer to a larger vapor chamber. Apple states this configuration offers up to 40% higher sustained performance compared to the previous generation.

Battery capacity also receives an upgrade, especially in models that operate solely on eSIM. Apple estimates the iPhone 18 Pro can support up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach 45 hours under the same test. The Pro model can attain a 50% charge in roughly 15 minutes using compatible wired accessories. eSIM-only variants will be available in markets such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, along with several other countries outside the region.

iOS 27 introduces Siri AI integration to the latest Pro series

Running on iOS 27, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup supports the upcoming generation of Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices with English as the primary language. Apple has plans to add support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in October. The assistant can leverage information from messages, emails, and photos when users seek assistance. It can also respond to on-screen content and work seamlessly with the Camera app. Apple Intelligence combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute for supported cloud tasks.

Available in colors including burgundy, glacier, silver, and black, the iPhone 18 Pro models offer storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB. The starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro is $1,199 in the United States, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at $1,299. Preorders will start at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12. Retail sales commence on September 18 in the initial markets. An additional 20 countries and regions will gain access to the iPhone 18 Pro lineup starting September 25.
