ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan has again increased petrol prices on October 6, following a rise announced three days prior. The latest revision saw petrol prices go up by Rs0.88 to Rs393.64 per litre, while high-speed diesel decreased by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre. This adjustment came after both fuels had been increased on October 3, when petrol was Rs392.76 and diesel Rs399.64. The new rates replaced those levels for the October 6 pricing period.

On October 3, petrol was increased by Rs2.10 from Rs390.66 per litre, and high-speed diesel rose by Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. The Petroleum Division attributed these changes to fluctuations in international fuel prices and other factors like benchmark rates, premiums, and associated costs. The country’s fuel pricing system also incorporates taxes and duties, with the federal government currently collecting Rs114 per litre on petrol and Rs100 per litre on high-speed diesel.
The October 6 revision reversed the price trend for diesel, which fell by Rs1.88 after its smaller increase three days earlier, while petrol continued its upward movement, rising by Rs0.88 from the October 3 level. Compared to October 2, petrol is now Rs2.98 per litre higher, whereas diesel is Rs1.58 lower in the same period. This latest change has widened the price disparity between the two major transport fuels sold across Pakistan.
Frequent fuel price changes driven by daily updates
Pakistan adopted a daily fuel pricing system in July, replacing the weekly revisions used earlier in the year. This approach allows domestic prices to adapt more swiftly to global market shifts, resulting in fuel price fluctuations on consecutive days. During a single review, petrol and diesel can even move in opposite directions, as demonstrated by the October 6 decision—petrol increased, while diesel decreased. The Petroleum Division continues to announce the updated rates for each pricing period accordingly.
Despite recent hikes, fuel prices are still significantly below their 2026 peaks. On April 3, petrol reached Rs458.41 per litre, and high-speed diesel climbed to Rs520.35. Earlier this year, petrol traded near Rs266 per litre in early March, with diesel close to Rs281. By October 6, petrol was Rs64.77 below its April high, while diesel was Rs122.59 lower than its peak. These figures highlight a substantial decline from the earlier levels.
Petrol and diesel remain vital for transportation in Pakistan
Petrol is widely used by cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws across the country, whereas high-speed diesel is predominantly utilized by trucks, buses, generators, and other commercial machinery. As a result, their prices impact different sectors of the transport and energy sectors. Because fuel expenses are a significant part of daily operational costs for consumers and businesses, their pricing remains highly influential. The federal government continues to levy duties and taxes on both products as part of the national petroleum pricing framework.
On October 6, petrol stands at Rs393.64 per litre and high-speed diesel at Rs397.76 per litre, replacing the previous rates of Rs392.76 and Rs399.64 from October 3. The latest adjustment adds Rs0.88 to petrol and reduces diesel by Rs1.88, maintaining the trend of frequent daily revisions. The October 3 increase serves as the baseline for the recent movement, with the October 6 rates now representing the current retail prices.
