BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – During a visit to Berlin, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The focus of their dialogue was on enhancing bilateral relations, fostering economic collaboration, and advancing developmental initiatives. The conversation also covered regional and global issues, with particular attention to diplomacy, peace efforts, and international security concerns. This meeting took place amid President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE Germany talks expand trade and diplomatic ties
Berlin talks put trade, investment, diplomacy and security at the center of UAE-Germany ties.

The two officials explored strategies to fortify the strategic partnership between the UAE and Germany across multiple sectors. Prominent among the topics discussed were economic cooperation and development projects. They also exchanged perspectives on global issues and diplomatic efforts to resolve crises. Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the longstanding ties between the nations and highlighted their history of collaboration in political and economic spheres.

The Berlin talks coincided with an expansion of the formal framework governing UAE-Germany relations. During the state visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, where they announced a Strategic Dialogue encompassing security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, and technology. This dialogue also includes digitalization, transportation, environmental initiatives, culture, and education, thereby broadening the scope of regular government interactions.

Enhanced economic cooperation strengthens the strategic alliance

Both governments endorsed the establishment of a German-UAE Investment Council, aiming to deepen links between public agencies and private sector entities in both countries. Officials welcomed the recommencement of the Joint Economic Committee and the outcomes of a bilateral business forum. The state visit resulted in the signing of 29 commercial agreements and memoranda worth over 9.356 billion euros, as stated in the joint government declaration.

Economic negotiations also covered sectors such as energy, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration detailed cooperation in LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and improving energy efficiency. It mentioned plans to develop advanced data centers with approximately one gigawatt of capacity. Both nations identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as additional priority areas for bilateral collaboration, along with investment and industrial development.

Focus on diplomacy and regional security issues

The foreign ministers also deliberated on regional and international developments, emphasizing efforts to promote peace, stability, and security worldwide. Their discussions included diplomatic initiatives and peaceful resolution strategies for crises. The German government had previously highlighted Middle East peace and stability as key topics during Sheikh Mohamed’s visit, situating the foreign ministers’ meeting within the broader diplomatic agenda in Berlin.

UAE Minister of State Lana Zaki Nusseibeh participated in the discussions between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul. The talks connected foreign policy priorities with the economic and developmental themes addressed during the state visit. They followed earlier UAE-Germany consultations held in Berlin in 2026. The recent meetings introduced new institutional mechanisms into the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2004, reinforcing economic cooperation, investment, and diplomatic engagement as core components of this enduring relationship.
